Programs
Miami University School of Fine Arts offers three degree programs in architecture and interior design:
- The NAAB accredited professional Master of Architecture has three tracks. Admission to the one-, two-, or three-and-one-half year track is dependent upon academic background.
- The Bachelor of Arts in Architecture is a pre-professional degree that prepares students to enter a two-year professional Master of Architecture program such as Miami University offers.
- The CIDA accredited Bachelor of Fine Arts offers a professional undergraduate education in interior design that prepares students to enter practice immediately upon graduation or to pursue further graduate level education
Several special academic opportunities, both on and off campus, augment these three degree programs.
The mission of the Master of Architecture Degrees Programs and the teaching and learning culture within the Department of Architecture and Interior Design is to conduct architectural inquiry in the pursuit of new forms of knowledge and, through rigorous professional preparation, construct critical practices that empower students to interpret, engage and give form to the ideas and forces that impact their world.
National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) Statement
In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes three types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture, the Master of Architecture, and the Doctor of Architecture. A program may be granted a 6-year, 3-year, or 2-year term of accreditation, depending on the extent of its conformance with established educational standards.
Master’s degree programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree that, when earned sequentially, constitute an accredited professional education. However, the pre-professional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.
