Within the context of Miami University's strong liberal arts tradition, the Department of Art promotes the conceptual, technical, and intellectual growth of students in the professional programs of the visual arts, design, art education, and art and architectural history. We encourage and support research and creative activity within a stimulating community of diverse disciplines. Our students and faculty serve as a creative force to expand the visual, aesthetic, and social discourse on issues at personal and universal levels. We value artistic heritage, contemporary precepts, and experimentation in search of creative solutions; a challenging and rigorous learning environment; and an atmosphere of diverse approaches and perspectives. Within a rapidly changing environment, we strive to balance relevant technology with traditional methods and media.
