Kernodle to consult for major museum project

Washington D.C. - Dr. Tammy L. Kernodle, Professor of Musicology at Miami University is one of a group of scholars recently selected to serve as consultants in the construction of music exhibits associated with the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.

The NMAAHC, which is slated to open in 2015, will be the 19th museum included in the Smithsonian consortium and will document the history of the African Americans from their arrival in 1619 until present. A major portion of the museum will survey the varied musical history of African Americans, which is what Dr. Kernodle will help to develop. Entitled “Musical Crossroads,” this portion of the museum will feature twelve exhibits that will attempt to contextualize the history and development of African American music.
