ASCA Design Competition

While developing concepts for the buildings at 1405-07 Republic Street, students expanded their view to include the block, the neighborhood, and the City of Cincinnati--knowing that buildings, like people, are always part of a greater society or system. From interpreting Cincinnati's built-but-never-used subway system as a bike path, to advocating block-wide co-generation power plants, to proposing nodes for transport these schemes envision an Over-the-Rhine that is not only preserved but also relevant and progressive.

Students collaborated and submitted boards for the 2009 American Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ASCA) "Green Community" competition. Two of the Miami University entries were commended: The Greenest Brick received Honorable Mention while Pieces in a Framework- Green Design Initiative was awarded a Citation.
