Cornerstone Corporation for Shared Equity

 
    Cornerstone, an innovative community development corporation in Over-the-Rhine, provides affordable housing with a twist---renters pitch-in with property management, maintenence, and community building and then get money back. The non-profit had been working out of a one-room office blocks away from their properties. With the first phase of renter-equity celerating five years of success and the second phase on the drawing boards, Cornerstone asked the Over-the-Rhine DesignBuild Studio to envision a new office space and community center in a pair of empty storefronts on Vine Street.

Improvements included a community kitchen, ADA washrooms, office space, a meeting room, a study/computer room for kids, and a community space for resident events including seminars on wealth management, renter-equity meetings, construction crew training, and potluck dinners. Student drawings for the space were given to Cornerstone, which had the space build by its construction crew and contractors.
