Over-the-Rhine Infill Projects

Concurrent with the renovation of existing building stock in Over-the-Rhine, it is important to consider the character of new structures in the neighborhood. But rather than conceptualizing a building form and then shoehorning the concept into an existing parcel, students of the Over-the-Rhine DesignBuild Studio designed infill housing prototypes by working incrementally from zoning codes, historic guidelines, parking requirements, and building code towards the final form. Lots owned by our community development corporation partner, Over-the-Rhine Community Housing, were inventoried and analyzed. Students each selected a parcel or series of parcels and developed buildings that were really three-dimensional feasibility studies, imagined within the constraints of urbanity. The projects were then turned over to OTRCH to serve as potential development projects for the agency's many lots.
