We encourage all prospective theatre majors to come and visit the department!
- Come to a Theatre Day and meet our faculty, staff, and students; see our theatres and shops; attend workshops with Department artists and scholars; attend workshops and classes with Miami theatre professors; and maybe see a performance! Register for Theatre Day >>
- Arrange a visit on your own. Contact us and and we can give you a tour, let you sit in on classes, and introduce you to some students.

High School Seniors and Transfer Students
1. Apply to Miami
Fill out a Miami University application found at the Office of Admission website. Indicate THEATRE (Code FA86) as your intended college major (or the major you wish to transfer into if completing the Transfer Student application).
2. Submit an application to the Theatre Department
This is a supplemental form to your Miami application. On this form you will be asked to tell us about your work in theatre, your interests, and you will arrange a time to take part in an theatre admissions audition/interview. You may complete this form either before or after you complete your Miami University application.

3. Complete an Admissions Audition/Interview
To become a theatre major at Miami, you must complete an admissions audition/interview with the Department of Theatre. There are many ways you can do this:
Attend an Interview Day
We can schedule an audition/interview when you visit campus for a Theatre Day. We also hold Interview Days on select Saturdays in January. You will be prompted to schedule an audition/interview after you have completed a Department Application.Come for an individual interview/tour

Don’t let distance or other circumstances discourage you from becoming a theatre major at Miami. If you can’t make it to Oxford, send us examples of your creative work!
When you fill out your Department of Theatre Application, you will be prompted to schedule an audition/interview. You can't arrange an interview until you have applied to the department!

PLEASE NOTE that Department of Theatre scholarships for incoming students are awarded based on materials presented through the Admissions Audition/Interview. Everyone who interviews becomes eligible for theatre department scholarships. More on scholarships >>
Changing your Major to Theatre or Relocating from MUM, MUH, or MUVOA
If you are currently a student on any of Miami's campus and want to become a theatre major, please complete an application for change of major/relocation. On completing the application, you will be asked to schedule an admissions audition/interview required of all majors. If you have questions, contact the Theatre Department. The phone number is 529-3053.
What to prepare for your audition/interview>>
Graduate Students
Complete a Miami University Graduate Application through the Graduate School.
Submit directly to the Department of Theatre:
A statement of purpose that includes your interests and goals in pursuing graduate study in theatre.
A writing sample in the form of a critical paper related to a theatre, performance, or literary topic.
Three letters of recommendation that speak to your ability to pursue graduate study.
While not required, you may choose to submit examples of your artistic work or other relevant materials. These might include original scripts or other creative writing; photos, video, reviews, and/or programs of plays you have directed, designed, or dramaturged; or any other evidence of creative work in the theatre or other mediums.
Applications received after February 1 may be eligible for admission, but will likely not be eligible for a Graduate Assistantship. Please direct your application to:
